Information collected is accessible and confidential to West Virginia University for the purpose of determining qualifications of a candidate for potential employment, quality control, quality assurance, statistical purposes, and academic research. Information supplied by individuals is kept on file for a minimum of three years.

West Virginia University requires a background check for all new employees. Internal employees who transfer to a position with a material change, such as going from a non-driving position to a driving position, shall also receive the additional necessary checks.
